Why do you call yourself a 12 piece band when there are usually only 11 musicians on stage?
We pride ourselves on being totally professional, always on time and always delivering what the client needs. And as one of the biggest bands in Brisbane, there is a lot of work done behind the scenes, before, during and after a gig. Us musos can't do it all on our own from up on stage.
SoulZU is lucky enough to have one of the hardest working band managers in Queensland, Cornel Tudorov. He doesnt just talk to venues and agents, he knows SoulZU inside and out. He is our tour manager when we travel, he is our eyes and ears in the audience, he is our backup sound engineer when our main sound guy has to go fix something thats blown up, he is our time keeper when we are gigging, he is our water boy when we are thirsty, and he is the decision maker when things get tough, he keeps all the musicians organised and ensures that the show always goes on. So in short, he is a permanent and neccessary member of the band, that just happens to be off stage.
Can SoulZU perform any smaller than a 12 piece?
We believe the SoulZU 12 piece band is one of the most impressive bands you'll ever hear and see (with the exception of major international touring acts like Stevie Wonder!) so we always recommend the full line up. People often ask if we can do a smaller band with the same sound. Unfortunately not. Every piece of the band is an important part of the funk puzzle and creates a spectacular sound.
Yeah but can you do even smaller than that?
No, our 12 and 9 piece band is as small as we can go without compromising the sound. Any smaller and it just wouldnt sound right. Funk and soul needs soaring vocal and horn harmonies and the full rhythm section to keep the groove driving forward. And if anyone else tries to tell you different, then take our word for it, they arent a true soul/funk band.
How small a size stage can you fit on?
We are masters at fitting in small spaces and can still look cool and comfortable.
Our 12 piece band can fit on stages as small as 5m x 4m.
